About
Hi, I’m Daniel Bast. Physicist (Dr. rer. nat.) and Software Architect, husband and father.
Physicist means I like understanding things from scratch. Every layer, PC BIOS to apps on k8s, waterfall to agile, hierarchical structures to flat cross-functional teams, and everything in between. Once you see the patterns, the rest is wiring.
I bootstrap projects, teams and data platforms. CI/CD skeletons, folder structures, reproducible workflows. The stuff that lets engineers ship fast in an iterative, high-quality, reproducible way instead of fighting their tools. Simplicity and not overdoing it keep things maintainable.
I like Open Source and maintain several conda-forge packages with all in all over 200 million downloads. See my full contributions on GitHub.
Bast Practices is where I share practical insights and reflections on engineering, complexity, and problem-solving, whether in software or other areas.
